Russian nesting dolls, also called matryoshkas, are wooden stacking dolls where each doll fits inside the next largest doll until they are all hidden within the largest. They are works of art that have incredible cultural significance. Through the decades nesting dolls have changed and evolved, but the original design is also alive and well. Some are priceless collectibles while others are made specifically to be toys for kids. They can be large or small, wood or plastic, painted or blank. They can have the traditional babushka (grandmother) theme or any number of modern themes from presidents to comic book characters. At Inside Nesting Dolls I will show you their history, how they are made, and where to find unique matryoshkas.
